Have you ever read a biography book on someone and had to do a report on it? Well, I have! It was an outstanding book. Well, I am going to give you a report that I did in school to share with you. Here I go!
My name is Kyle Halverson and the book I read is called Lincoln . The copyright for this book wasn t to long ago it was 1987. The author of this cool book was Russell Freedman.
This book that I read is about Abraham Lincoln. He was sixteen president of the United States of America. This book is about famous Abraham Lincoln and the biography of his growing up life. It tells you specific details of his life that makes you want to stick your finger right to the pages and then keep flipping and flipping the pages.
Do you know why someone would want to write about Abraham Lincoln? I do! It s because he is such a big part of history and such a great guy. He was the man who signed the Emancipation Proclamation to free all slaves of the Confederate States of America. That s pretty big! He was also famous for his wonderful speeches such as the Gettysburg Address that was only about 3 minutes long. He makes these speeches that just keep the audience in a daze. He wasn t that smart either, but he just worked so hard to learn and when anyone does that you ll be rewarded. He is like a dead mentor to me. I know that sounds weird, but that s how I feel. Abe is just so incredible it s inexplicable to say why. No one is ever going to think we even had such a thing as slavery if they never knew about Lincoln.
There were millions of things I learned from Abraham Lincoln that I never knew before. I am only going to tell you eight though, ok? The first thing I learned about Abe was that that is a nickname people started calling Abraham that he hated. The second thing I learned was that Lincoln had a wife and four children. Two of them died. The third thing I learned was that he signed the Emancipation Proclamation (a document) that freed all slaves in Confederate States. The fourth thing I learned from Lincoln was that he lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Washington. He was born near Hodgenville, Kentucky, on February 12, 1809, in a log cabin with one window, one door, a chimney, and a hard packed dirt floor. The fifth thing I learned was Abraham Lincoln had a sister that was two years older than him and was named Sara. The sixth thing I never knew about Abraham was that Lincoln always worked for the laws and he was a lawyer and ran for Illinois legislature, but lost. Also Lincoln worked for a frontier merchant. Then he was sixteenth president of the United Sates. There are so much other things he did too!! The second to last thing I learned from the book was Lincoln never gave up. He would keep fighting until he got what he wanted. The last thing I learned from Lincoln was that at 7:22 A.M. on April 15, Lincoln died at the age of fifty- six.
I think this book should be written about Abraham Lincoln because they would really understand what I am talking about and they can enjoy the part where they stick there eyes to the book to hear the interesting, and detailed facts about Mr. Abraham Lincoln. They would know what Lincoln went through and know what braveness he had and hear the dialog of Lincoln s speeches. If someone reads this they will know exactly everything about Lincoln because of how good the author is. They ll learn the real part of the Civil War and the real Abraham Lincoln.
This book was awesome! It was even named as the most distinguished contribution to American Literature for children or you could call it a gold medal. You people just have to read it to understand my reasoning. I thought it wasn t going to be a good book when I flipped through the pages to see what it was like, but it was good. It taught me things I never heard of. For example: Vocabulary words and things that happened to Lincoln. I already told you how good of a book this is. This book was like the Social Studies textbook, but more understandable and had better information. Also has a bunch of photos that can actually make you think you are there and actually see what it was like back in the 1800s.
Well, that s my report on Abraham Lincoln. He will always be special no matter what. I hoped you liked it. I worked very hard on it. Remember . read this book!
