*The statewide category of assault has been revised because of different interpretations of what constitutes assault. Verbal threats without physical contact were sometimes reported as assaults. There is also a new, expanded definition of assault with a deadly weapon. Reported now is any item that is actually used in an effort to inflict any bodily harm, i.e. a foot, a fist, a pencil or a comb.
**Under the new California Safe Schools Assessment School Crime Report, only vandalism over $100 is included. Some prior years’ incidents were under $100, so the actual reduction is less than this.
