Далее мы анализируем теорию обмена, обсуждаем работы основных представителей бихевиоризма в социологии. Наиболее значительный теоретик обмена — Джордж Хоманс, находившийся под сильным влиянием работ Б. Ф. Скиннера. Хоманс критиковал объяснение социального поведения на макроуровне такими учеными, как Дюркгейм, Парсонс и Леви-Стросс. Он стремился объяснить социальное поведение с помощью психологических принципов, т. е. с позиций бихевиоризма. Он считал, что психологические принципы могут быть использованы для того, чтобы объяснить не только индивидуальное поведение, но также и социальную структуру и социальное изменение. Суть теории Хоманса — в следующих основных постулатах:
1. Постулат успеха: «Для всех человеческих действий верно, что чем чаще они поощряются, тем с большей вероятностью вос производятся».
2. Постулат стимула: «Если в прошлом стимул или совокупность стимулов обусловливали поощрение действия, то чем более данные стимулы похожи на прошлые, тем более вероятно, что личность воспроизведет то же или сходное действие».
