Procrastination And You Essay, Research Paper
Procrastination is one of the leading causes of late or incomplete work. Procrastination not only negatively affects your work, yet it can also make you look bad as well. When you procrastinate all you are doing is postponing your work and problems; eventually there will be to many for you to handle and they will all suffer. In life, you must learn to balance your responsibilities so that everything is complete and on time.
When you procrastinate on an assignment, the quality of your work will always be less. Take this paper for example, if I waited until the last minute and just turned it in, then many things may be wrong. The grammar, spelling, and even my name may be over looked in a rush. Just by allowing enough time to proofread, you can solve these simple errors. If you procrastinate, then you will be more inclined to skip this important step. Another big problem with procrastination is you do not leave yourself anytime to plan out your project. It will come together much easier if you take the time to step back and think about what you are going to do. This will also keep simple mistakes from ruining an otherwise great project. People who leave assignments to the last minute are more likely to resort to cheating. A rushed assignment sticks out like a sore thumb among work that has been prepared over weeks or days.
Another danger that comes with procrastination is an increase in stress. When an assignment is left to the last minute, then it lingers in the back of your mind the whole time. Once the time arrives that you must do it, any other plans must be put on hold. If you delay, then you may end up being frustrated with yourself, and the teacher, which only takes away from the quality of work. If several assignments are due at the same time, then the stress increases even more. You may end up handing in two half done projects when, with a little planning and discipline, each could have been complete. All the stress over your work, which could have been done earlier, will negatively effect the rest of your day. All could have been avoided had you properly planned.
Another reason not to procrastinate is because you learn poor work habits. As you further your education, you will no longer be able to leave things to the last minute. As assignments get bigger, they require more planning and thought. If you haven’t learned the skills to plan before, then these assignments will not get done properly. When you make excuses to put off assignments, you learn to make excuses for other things as well. You’ll start making excuses to cheat on your diet, or even quit exercising. Once you start to doubt yourself, your self-confidence drops and all kinds of other problems start to happen.
When you procrastinate many repercussions can occur; you don’t learn to discipline yourself, your work suffers, and you get stressed out. Procrastination is dangerous; you fool yourself by thinking up reasons to wait one more week or one more day. The most disappointing thing is that procrastination is so easy to stop. You just have to quit being lazy, make up your mind to get it done, and just do it!
