- Seasons and Weather

There are four seasons in the year: winter, spring, summer and autumn. Each of them lasts three months.

In Ukraine winter is usually a cold season.

It often snows, the rivers are frozen. The most unpleasant thing about winter is that the sun sets early and rises late — especially in December and January.

The days are short, the sky is often grey, nature is sleeping and sometimes it gets rather boring.

But at the end of March the weather gets gradually milder.

The sun shines more brightly.

The days become longer.

The snow begins melting.

Spring comes and nature awakens after a long winter sleep.

All kinds of plants and flowers come out.

The birds return from the South and build their nests. The farmers begin the sowing campaign.

Everything around is full of life and joy. Spring is followed by summer.

The weather gets still warmer and sometimes it is very hot. The sky is blue and cloudless.

But sometimes there are storms with thunder and lightning. The gardens are gay with flowers for all summer months.

- Пори року і погода

Є чотири пори року: зима, весна, літо й осінь. Кожна з них триває три місяці.

В Україні зима — звичайно холодна пора року.

Часто йде сніг, ріки замерзають.

Найбільш неприємне узимку те, що сонце рано сідає і пізно встає, особливо в грудні і січні.

Дні короткі, небо часто буває сірим, природа спить, і іноді це дуже набридає.

Але до кінця березня погода поступово пом’якшується.

Сонце сіяє яскравіше.

Дні стають довші.

Сніг починає танути.

Приходить весна, і природа просипається після довгого зимового сну. Починають розпускатися всі рослини і квіти.

Птахи повертаються з півдня і в’ють гнізда.

Селяни починають сівбу.

Усе навколо повне життя і радості. За весною надходить літо. Погода стає усе тепліша, а іноді буває спека. Небо блакитне і безхмарне.

Але іноді бувають грози з громом і блискавками.

Сади рясніють квітами протягом усіх літніх місяців.

In summer people spend much time in the open air.

They find time to go to the forest, to swim in the river, to sunbathe.

Autumn comes in September.

Early autumn is still the harvest time, the time when the fruit and vegetables become ripe.

It is also a very beautiful time of the year, when the weather is still warm and the leaves change their colour from green to yellow. But towards the end of October the weather gets colder and colder.

There’s much rain and fog.

Leaves fall from trees and cover the ground.

Birds fly away to warm countries.

Low and heavy clouds hang in the sky.

The landscape becomes rather dull. Nature slowly falls asleep for winter.

In fact every season has its fine days and is pleasant in its own way.

And it is not difficult to see this beauty.

Люди проводять багато часу на свіжому повітрі.

Вони знаходять час піти в ліс, поплавати в ріці, позагоряти. У вересні приходить осінь.

Рання осінь — час збору врожаю, час, коли дозрівають овочі і фрукти.

Це теж прекрасна пора року, коли погода усе ще тепла, а листя жовтіє.

Але до кінця жовтня погода стає усе холоднішою.

Часті дощі і тумани.

Листя падає з дерев і вкриває землю.

Птахи летять у теплі краї.

У небі висять низькі і важкі хмари.

Пейзаж стає досить нудним.

До зими природа повільно впадає в сплячку.

У дійсності в кожній порі року є гарні дні, і кожна прекрасна посвоєму.

How lovely the white snowdrops are! There are new leaves and blossoms on the trees.

The birds begin to sing and build their nests.

The air is fresh and the sun shines brightly.

The days are warm and everything is full of life and joy.

Everybody feels younger and stronger.

Many people like spring more than other seasons.

It is very pleasant to watch how the nature awakens from the winter sleep.

In spring we can go to the country and have a walk in the woods or by the river, play ballgames, lie in the sun and even have a swim if the water is warm enough.

That is why many people like spring very much.

Я люблю весну.

Це чудова пора року.

Приходить весна і природа прокидається від зимового сну. Дні стають довшими, а ночі коротші.

Земля вкрита свіжою зеленою травою і першими весняними квітами.

Які красиві білі проліски! На деревах з’являються нові листочки і бруньки.

Птахи починають співати і будувати гнізда.

Повітря свіже і сонце світить яскраво.

Дні теплі і все сповнене життя і радості.

Усі почувають себе молодшими і сильнішими.

Багато людей люблять весну більше, ніж інші пори року. Так приємно спостерігати, як пробуджується природа.

Навесні можна поїхати за місто і гуляти в лісі чи на річці, грати в м’яч, лежати на сонці і навіть купатися, якщо вода досить тепла.

Тому багато людей дуже люблять весну.

The bright sunshine warms the Earth.

When the heat is oppressive, it is a treat to get out of town and have a walk in the woods.

The fields are green.

In summer nature surrounds us with all kinds of flowers: merry dandelions, tulips, beautiful roses, shy daisies.

Sometimes the weather becomes very hot in summer and the air gets stuffy.

Then a thunderstorm usually brings relief.

The sky is suddenly covered with dark clouds and distant rolls of thunder are heard.

Later bright flashes of lightning are followed by claps of thunder and it begins to rain.

After the thunderstorm the air is remarkably fresh, and very often we can see a beautiful bridge across the sky which is called a rainbow.

Children love summer very much because in summer they have long holidays.

They don’t have to go to school and that’s why they have much free time.

They can play with their friends in the yard, read or watch TV.

So, summer is a really good time.

Теплі сонячні промені зігрівають Землю.

Коли жара нестерпна, приємно виїхати за місто і погуляти в лісі.

Поля зелені.

Улітку природа оточує нас усіма видами квітів: веселі кульбаби, тюльпани, прекрасні троянди, ніжні маргаритки.

Іноді влітку стає спекотливо і повітря дуже задушливе.

Полегшення звичайно приносить гроза.

Небо раптово вкривається темними хмарами і чується віддалений гуркіт грому.

Пізніше яскраві спалахи блискавки супроводжуються ударами грому і починає лити дощ.

Після грози повітря на диво свіже і дуже часто можна бачити красиву дугу в небі, що називається веселкою.

Діти люблять літо найбільше, тому що влітку в них довгі канікули.

Їм не треба ходити до школи і тому в них багато вільного часу.

Вони можуть грати з друзями в дворі, читати чи дивитися телевізор.

Тому літо — дійсно гарна пора.

In September summer yields to autumn.

The days become shorter and the nights become longer.

The fruit trees that not long ago bloomed with flowers are heavy with juicy apples and pears.

Harvest time is a rush season for farmers.

They gather sunflowers and maize, potatoes and cabbage, turnip and cucumbers, carrots and tomatoes.

Early autumn is the period of flaming colours, when the landscape is gold and brown.

In the daytime the silver gossamer is flying in the air.

It’s a sign of the beautiful “Indian

Summer”.

But unfortunately this period of fine weather is very short and deep autumn follows it.

- Осінь

У вересні літо звільняє дорогу осені.

Дні стають коротші, а ночі довші.

Сонячні промені не такі яскраві і теплі.

Фруктові дерева, що нещодавно були вкриті квітами, згинаються під вагою соковитих яблук і груш.

Збір врожаю — тяжкий час для фермерів.

Вони збирають соняшник і кукурудзу, картоплю і капусту, ріпу й огірки, моркву і помідори. Рання осінь — це час вогняних кольорів, коли пейзаж золотавокоричневий.

Вдень у повітрі літають срібні павутинки.

Це ознака прекрасного «бабиного літа».

Але, на жаль, цей період гарної погоди дуже короткий і настає холодна осінь.

We say goodbye to birds that fly away to warm countries.

The sky is covered with low, heavy clouds — the period of rain has set in.

It is not pleasant to be out in the rain that is accompanied by a cold wind.

Ми прощаємося з птахами, що летять у теплі краї.

Небо вкрите низькими важкими хмарами — установлюється період дощів.
