Багато років тому я вирішила вступити до університету на факультет іноземних мов.
Англійська мова була моїм улюбленим предметом у школі.
Я добре училася.
Наші уроки завжди були цікавими.

So I decided to enter the Foreign Languages Department.

I like this profession though I understand that it is a difficult job. To be a good teacher you must be interested in what you are doing.
The profession of a teacher is very important.

Сьогодні в нашій країні вчителя англійської мови дуже цінують.
Я люблю цю професію, хоча розумію, що це важка робота.
Щоб бути гарним учителем, потрібно бути зацікавленим у тім, що робиш.

Учитель — це людина, що завжди готова допомогти учням і по справжньому зацікавлена у своїй роботі.
Finishing school is the beginning of the independent life for millions of school leavers.
Many roads are open before them: technical schools, colleges and universities. But it is not an easy thing to choose a profession out of more than 2,000 existing in the world.
Some pupils follow the advice of their parents, others can’t decide even after leaving school. As for me I made my choice long ago.
I want to become a teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature.
My choice of this occupation didn’t come as a sudden flash. During all school years literature was my favourite subject.
I have read a lot of books by Ukrainian and foreign writers.
I understand that reading books helps people in selfeducation and in solving different life problems.
My parents are also teachers and I know that teaching is a very specific and difficult job.
Teachers do not only teach their subjects.
They develop their pupils’ intellect, form their views and characters, their attitudes to life and to other people.
It’s a great responsibility.
It’s not as easy as it may seem at first.
But I think that love for children combined with the knowledge I’ll get at the University would be quite enough to succeed in my work.

Багато доріг відкрито перед ними: технікуми, оледжи, університети. Але нелегко вибрати професію з більш ніж 2000 існуючих у світі.
Деякі діють за порадою батьків, інші не можуть вирішити навіть після за кінчення школи.
Щодо мене, то я зробила свій вибір давно.
Я хочу стати вчителем української мови і літератури. Мій вибір професії не був випадковим осяянням.
Протягом усього навчання в школі література була моїм улюбленим предметом.
Я прочитала багато книг українських і закордонних авторів.
Я розумію, що читання книг допомагає людям у самоосвіті і вирішенні різних життєвих питань.
Мої батьки теж учителі, і я знаю, що праця вчителя дуже специфічна і важка.
Учителі не тільки викладають свої предмети.
Вони розвивають інтелект учнів, формують їхні погляди і характери, їхнє відношення до життя й інших людей. Це величезна відповідальність.
Це не так легко, як може здатися спочатку.
Але мені здається, що любов до дітей, з’єднана зі знаннями, отриманими в університеті, буде цілком достатньою умовою, щоб процвітати в моїй роботі.

I think that one of the most difficult things is to plan one’s own future.
But a person may suppose what he or she would like to do in the near future.
I have not decided about my future profession yet.
Life is quite difficult now, but I want to have an interesting job.
I would like my work to be connected with different countries and people.
I’d like to communicate with people at my work.
I also hope to enter some higher educational establishment and gain more knowledge and more friends.
My another dream is to learn to operate the computer. Perhaps I will attend some computer classes.
I will also improve my command of English.
Я вважаю, що будувати плани на майбутнє дуже складно.
Але людина може припускати, що вона хотіла б робити у найближчому майбутньому.
Я ще нічого не вирішив щодо моєї майбутньої професії.
Зараз життя досить складне, але мені хочеться займатися цікавою роботою.
Я також хочу, щоб моя робота була зв’язана з різними країнами і людьми.

I realize that the knowledge of languages is very important nowadays.
I hope to spend more time with my family, especially with my grandparents.
They are getting older, so they need more care and help now.
And I hope I will have enough time for my favourite music and my old friends.
I can’t imagine my future life without them.

Але я сподіваюся, у мене вистачить часу на мою улюблену музику і старих друзів. Я не можу уявити своє майбутнє життя без них.
It’s always interesting to begin something new.
And if the beginning is good, the end may also be good.
If we think of such a problem as “choosing a profession”, we must know everything about this or that profession.
For example, I want to become a doctor.
It means that at the age of ten or eleven I have to read books about doctors.

Якщо ми візьмемо таку проблему як вибір професії, то ми повинні знати усе про ту чи іншу професію.
Наприклад, я хочу стати лікарем.
Це значить, що у віці 10 чи 11 років я повинна читати книги про лікарів.
This may be done by going to the library and by reading widely; also by talking to adults who know much about this profession. I also need to think about how well I can do what I would like to do.
Perhaps the best way to prepare for any job is to get a good education — to do well at school, and to learn all I can outside of school.
Jobs change and new ones are constantly appearing.
In some years now, there will be many more new jobs nobody knows anything about today. By reading and talking to people we’ll learn what great opportunities there will be for us.
If a school leaver wants to get a higher education, the best way to it is through practical work. Most school leavers will work a few years at a factory or plant before entering the University. They will have time to think over their decision and they will have a good knowledge of life.
Можна ходити в бібліотеку і читати книги про цю професію, а також розмовляти з дорослими, котрі багато знають про цю професію.
Мені також потрібно подумати, наскільки добре я зможу робити те, що мені подобається. Можливо, найкращий спосіб готуватися до будьякої роботи — одержати гарну освіту, для цього потрібно добре учитися в школі й учитися тому, що є поза школою.
Професії міняються і постійно з’являються нові.
Через кілька років будуть нові професії, про які ніхто зараз не знає.
За допомогою читання і бесід з людьми ви зможете довідатися про величезні можливості, що будуть у вас.
Якщо ж випускники хочуть одержати вищу освіту, то найкращий шлях до цього — через практику.
Багато випускників перед вступом до університету будуть працювати кілька років.

What does the sentence “I am a citizen of Ukraine” mean?
At first it is difficult to answer.
Let’s take some examples.
A doctor helps people to improve their health.
A worker makes machines.
A farmer grows plants.
A teacher teaches pupils.
A soldier defends our country.
In short we can become builders, shopmen or pilots.
But a citizen is not a profession. To be a citizen means to be responsible for one’s work, for the future of our country. People become doctors to help other people.
They become farmers to give their country more bread. They become workers to make new machines needed by their country.
They become teachers to give the youth knowledge necessary for their life.
We know the names of the best veterans of labour and veterans of war in our country.
We met with them and they told us about their work and life.
But have we thought about what the members of our own families have done as Ukrainian citizens?

Лікар допомагає людям поліпшити здоров’я.
Робітник створює машини.
Фермер вирощує врожаї.
Учитель навчає дітей.
Солдат захищає нашу країну.
Коротше кажучи, ми можемо стати будівельниками, продавцями чи льотчиками.
Але громадянин — це не професія. Бути громадянином — означає відповідати за свою роботу, за майбутнє нашої країни. Люди стають лікарями, щоб допомагати іншим людям. Вони стають фермерами, щоб дати своїй країні більше хліба.
