Sir Isaac Newton(science) Essay, Research Paper
Describe Social and Economical conditions of this time.
During the time period of 1643 – 1727 there were many things happening. One thing, which was happening, was the plague. 1/3 of the world died in that terrible time. Newton was very lucky that he was sent to his aunts to live. The people were no longer excepting the theories of Plato and Aristotle. The scientists of that day such as Galileo had a new approach to science: make observations, carry out experiments, test ideas, analyze results, and create new scientific theories from these procedures. Many wars were taking place in England. There was around thirty years of war taking place, which ended in 1648. In 1642 a Civil War began. The kings at this time were King Charles I and King Charles II. In 1707 England and Scotland joined together as one.pg.28
What event Inspired Sir Isaac?
An event that influenced Newton the most was going to collage. Trinity was the collage that Newton attended. Newton had many hardships in collage. He had to keep jobs to get enough money so he could stay in school. Collage was how he became interested in learning about things like math and science. A person who inspired Newton was one of his professors, Isaac Barlow. Barlow encouraged Newton to learn more about mathematics. Barlow also went to Cambridge along with Newton. Collage influence Newton more then anything else he did or who he knew.pg.9
What failures did Newton have?
Newton had few failures in his days. Gravity is one example of his failures. Before he actually got the concept of gravity he did many experiments all to his dismay. He found that his ideas were not accurate or just not right. For his book “Principia” he had many drafts. It took him many years to finish the book. When it was finally “perfect” he decided to publish it. . The book was a very popular but not as popular as the almanac. Although not as popular as the almanac it was a very factual and popular book. Failures were a big part of Newton’s life because of him being a scientist.
Newton’s notable achievements.
Some notable achievements for Newton is the telescope. The telescope was one of Newton’s greatest inventions ever. The telescope helped him research space and the universe. Newton knew when he invented the telescope that it would be a great tool to help solve the mystery of the universe. One other thing was the finding of calculus. He found this when he was rather young. He was a late teenager or in his early 20s. He did this while at his aunt’s house. It was huge.pg.102-105
Memorable Events in his life
An event that stuck out in Newton’s mind was him moving to his aunt’s house. That stuck in his mind because it changed the course of his life. It changed his life because he was on the other side of the world (to him). He had to leave all his friends and his family, besides his aunt. The reason he left to go to his aunt’s house was because of the plague. If he hadn’t he probably would have died also. All the rest of his family died from the plague. That is another reason why it changed his life. If he had stayed it was most likely that he would have died also.
How has society been affected by what Newton has done?
Three things that Newton did that affected society today were the invention of the telescope, the finding of calculus, and the finding of gravity. With the invention of the telescope it allowed scientists to look further into space and explore the universe. His finding of calculus has benefited society today because without it NASA couldn’t find out how to get to other planets and back. Gavity was not really found. Newton just noticed it. With the falling apple theory he found what is called gravity. Without knowing about it we wouldn’t know how to get off the planet. We wouldn’t know much at all.
